The TRAC Star Award

The Racing Attorney Conference, an annual motorsports law conference presented by the Indianapolis Bar Association Sports and Entertainment Law Section and the North Carolina Bar Association, periodically presents its TRAC Star Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed by the program committee.

Candidates for the award must exhibit exemplary skills, service and leadership in the field of motorsports law, demonstrated by a highly professional approach to motorsports legal and/or business matters. Candidates must also be regarded as a person of high integrity and possess qualities held in the highest regard by those in the field of motorsports law. Candidates must also have a consistent record of presenting the practice and/or theory of motorsports law in a positive light to the sports world and the general public.

Award Criteria

Candidate must hold a Juris Doctor degree and preference is given to lawyers with at least ten (10) years of extensive experience in motorsports law or in motorsports business in general. Candidate does not have to be currently active in the motorsports industry. Award can be made posthumously.

Candidate must exhibit exemplary skill, service and leadership which may be demonstrated by a highly professional approach to motorsports legal and/or business matters and a demonstration of professionalism that clearly has had a positive, motivating effect on others and has a positive and meaningful impact on the candidate’s clients, businesses and the motorsports industry in general.

Candidate must be regarded as a person with high integrity and ethics and possess those qualities held in highest regard by those in the field of motorsports law.

Candidate must have consistent record of presenting the practice and/or theory of motorsports law in a positive light to the sports world and the public in general.

Nominations and Selection Process

Nominations are accepted from active members of TRAC and members of the Selection Committee.

The Selection Committee is, at a minimum, composed of three representatives of the association. At the discretion of TRAC’s management board, the Selection Committee can be expanded to include not more than three members, and one member of the committee serves as chairperson. The Selection Committee may include representatives of the motorsports industry and/or prior award winners.

Presentation of the award

The TRAC Star is presented during the annual TRAC gathering.
